HP home laptop users expand mobility while resisting change-one-time TUP data cut

Background

Home laptop computers have been boosted by long-term changes in user behavior, as many move to mobility. While some users are mobile out of necessity, especially with the onset of the pandemic and expansion of remote work, others have found benefits from a more mobile lifestyle. However, users have also migrated many of their activities to smartphones, especially personal activities. These long-term shifts have spelled both challenge and opportunities for home laptop makers as they seek to serve a rapidly shifting set of users.

Approach

This one-time TUP data cut profiles active home laptop computer users by those using HP versus users of any other home laptop brand. Including intentions to refresh their PCs within specific time frames, we profile the age of laptop computers in active use, a comprehensive demographic profile of current customers, and usage levels in hours and breadth of activities. MetaFacts further identifies the activities conducted most often, including remote work status. Furthermore, we profile the AI attitudes and behaviors of HP and non-HP home laptop computer users.

These results are based on the MetaFacts TUP/Technology User Profile 2024 datasets. Of these, 3,838 respondents represent online adults in the US, Germany, the UK, and Japan who actively use a home laptop computer.

The TUP data cut features a set of standardized cross-tabulations from TUP/Technology User Profile 2024 in Excel format.
